Welcome to STC! the Sydney Theatre Company

We hope you enjoy your visit to STC. First and foremost I would like to stress that this is not the official website of the Sydney Theatre Company, rather a website with the aim of giving information about the company and related information to performance and drama in Australia.
The Sydney Theatre Company was established in 1978 and since then has become a respected and valued institution which has successfully fostered the development of theatrical talent in Sydney and across Australia. Some of the big names that the Sydney Theatre Company has helped in their careers include Cate Blanchett (now a co-artistic director of the company), Mel Gibson, Geoffrey Rush, Toni Collette, Judy Davis, Miranda Otto, Rose Byrne and Hugo Weaving. The Sydney Theatre Company is responsible for quality dramatic productions which are enjoyed by over 300,000 individuals every year.
More broadly, theatre in Australia has blossomed since settlers from Europe brought the traditions of theatre to Australia in the late 18th century and there are many theatre companies across the country providing a chance for young talent to shine and hopefully make a valuable contribution to the wider acting industry within Australia.
We hope you enjoy your visit here - this website is a work in progress and we will be looking to add more and more relevant information as we continue to build up this resource. As well as information written within these pages, please feel free to look around and visit the links to other relevant sites within the wonderful field of Australian theatre.

Within these pages you'll find information on the Sydney Theatre Company, drama in Australia, Australian arts and culture
We'll update this site as often as possible with all the latest news and views as soon as we know. Please come back regularly to see what's changed

Theatre
''Theatre''' (or '''theater''', see American and British English spelling differences or spelling differences) (from French '''théâtre''', from Greek 'theatron', ''θέατρον'', meaning 'place of seeing') is the branch of the performing arts concerned with acting out stories in front of an audience using combinations of speech, gesture, mime, puppets, music, dance, sound and spectacle — indeed any one or more elements of the other performing arts.
